A must read for moms stuck in survival mode

If you’re a mom who is having a hard time finding spiritual moments or purpose in the day to day chores and picking up after kids, but want to be seeking spirituality then you need to read this book! Jessica Poe helps us see that we need to be spiritually awake and alert throughout our day so that we can see Christ in our daily lives. And she has some great ideas to help us see how to do that throughout her book! In Everyday MOMents, Jessica takes you through a day in her life with her 3 young children. She shares the events of the day as well as reflects on other life experiences that she’s had and then she shows you her thought process as she finds God’s hand in each part of the day. At the end of each chapter she has a “Your Turn” section and gives you ideas of how to start finding God’s influence in your own daily life. They’re great things to think about and do to help you really start this process rather than just reading about it. I love that she gets your brain and heart working too.

I also love her reference of scriptures and talks throughout the book. This is a book for any Christian woman, but she does reference scriptures from the Book of Mormon and LDS leaders. I love having these references to back up her thoughts and also give me something to go read myself.

I loved reading this book. It’s such a comfort to know that you’re not the only person feeling like you’re “stuck in survival mode.” And that you’re not the only mom who struggles with the monotonous day to day routines feeling like you’ll never escape and never be able to grow. Jessica Poe gives you so many great ideas on how to find purpose in the details of the day and I know if you stop and look for it, you will see God’s hand in your life too. This is a must read for all moms! Moms of all ages and especially moms in the trenches with young children who want to be seeking spirituality daily, but aren’t sure where to start.

Jessica's book is a gift to mothers of all kinds

    Pros:
    Cons:
Starting out with a nice organic introduction to Jessica as a mother, this book sets us up to join a sweet friend on her journey through the day. Because I felt from the beginning that she was like me, that she feels similar frustrations with her body, skin, cleaning responsibilities… it felt natural to trust her and her words.

Written in bite-sized chapters, each with a helpful message, Everyday MOMents is easy to accomplish and does NOT feel like ‘one more task’ for mom. It is loaded (perhaps like the diaper bag of a very prepared and germ-o-phobic mama!) with honest and heart-felt goodness. Packed with inspiration and reminders to STOP, which is what I try to do with my paintings: remind mothers to stop and notice the little moments and the little tidbits that make each day special. I knew there was a reason I liked Jessica so much… she and I are both trying to stop and find meaning in the moments.

It’s important to note, I feel, that I am not a typical religious person, and this book has many references to ‘hearing from/learning from’ Heavenly Father in our days. This doesn’t bother me because I can easily translate these references to coincide with the spirituality and power that I DO feel around me ~ just with different names. A book such as this requires us to open our mind and to be willing to soak in the information and inspiration that it contains, without feeling judgement for how it might ‘believe differently’ from us. That in itself is a fantastic lesson, and a fantastic practice in acceptance and independence.

I think of Jessica’s book not only as a gift to other mothers, but as a gift to herself. Writings of her children’s lives ~ and her life as a mama, snagged forever ~ writings of her lessons, forever recorded. Jessica’s book reminds me to give myself more of these gifts… to WRITE down the lessons I learn each day, so that I can learn from them over and over. And I am getting lessons from Everyday MOMents.

    A beautiful book about Motherhood

This book exceeded all my expectations of what I was thinking I would learn from it. I started reading it knowing that it was going to be about how to overcome the daily challenges of motherhood and how to embrace the daily joys of motherhood. However, it is so much more then that. It reminded me of why I love being a mother, and how I can look for the good and find joy in the simple, mundane tasks such as folding laundry. Jessica does a beautiful job in finding Christ in every aspect of her every day duties and she shares how she does that throughout this wonderful book. I would recommend this to every mother out there! It's beautifully written, and it has truly changed my perspective on so many things about being a mother, a wife, a caregiver and nurturer.

Everyday "MOMents" is the perfect book to add to your collection. I'm not even a mother yet, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Jessica takes you on an adventure of ONE day in her life-- raising three beautiful children. We all get caught up in the repetitive and mundane tasks each day holds. But, Jessica shares a message like no other. She shows you how to find Christ in everything you do. She teaches us how to listen to the quiet whisperings of the Spirit. And she explores how to find joy in the journey. Jessica has personal anecdotes that we can all relate to whether it be a dirty diaper, finding time for prayers, her father's illness, and fulfilling a church calling. She expresses her love for the Savior and that she truly couldn't do this life on her own. We need the strength found in the Atonement. With scriptures and quotations from the prophets, I left each chapter refreshed and ready for anything life throws at me. Although I was only reading the book, it felt like I was having a conversation with myself and the text. A lot of the lessons in this book, I have pondered before.. which was incredible to know that I am not alone in my thoughts. Truly inspiring, Jessica invites you to start your own journal and keep all the daily "MOMents" in one place. For we surely can find spiritual symbolism in our temporal life. It is exciting to know that we can find happiness now and that God wants the best for His children. Life is beautiful!

Jessica created a beautiful way to keep Christ in all that we do-even when it is the mundane, day to day tasks of motherhood. I have loved reading her thoughts and how she provides prompts to get us thinking of our own.
